About the Program

Purpose:  Storytime introduces preschool children to quality literature in an entertaining and enriching atmosphere. It provides the child with an opportunity to learn new words, to be exposed to new concepts, and to interact with new friends in a group experience. Storytime acquaints children with a wide range of library materials and resources, as well as encourages the development of a lifelong love of books and reading.

Program:  Each weekly Storytime session is approximately 45 minutes in length. Storytime sessions are thematic based and may include flannel board stories, fingerplays, singing, poetry, creative dramatics, puppetry and crafts. Parents and children are encouraged to extend the magic of Storytime by borrowing library materials and sharing Storytime fingerplays, stories, songs, and experiences with family and friends at home. 

Who is invited?  Three, four, and five year olds who are able to participate positively in a group experience.

How can you help?  Parental cooperation is essential for making Storytime a pleasant and enriching experience for your child.  For the benefit of your child and other Storytime participants, please remember the following:

• Please discuss Storytime with your child before you arrive, explaining that there will be stories, fingerplays, and songs. Young children need to know what is expected of them.
• Parents will be asked to remove disruptive children from Storytime to allow the other children to enjoy the program without distractions.
• We appreciate your effort to arrive on time each week. Latecomers disrupt not only the children, but the storyteller as well.
• Please ask your child if they need to use the restroom prior to entering the Storytime area.
• Parents/Caregiver must remain on library premises during all library programs.
• Remember, the best gift you'll ever give your child is a library card.

Registration:  None is required. All sessions are open.
